The Faculty Induction Programme for Salesian College 2017

The Induction program for the new faculty members for Salesian College for both the campuses took place at the Salesian College, Siliguri Campus on the 30 June 2017. The event was attended by the new faculty members as well as the old ones who had joined Salesian College in the latter part of 2016.
The program began at 09:00 am with the introduction from Fr. (Dr.) George Chempakathinal (Vice- Principal, SCSC), where he addressed the new faculty members and welcomed them to the Salesian family. He introduced Fr. (Dr.) Matthew Pulingathil, the Rector of Salesian College to the faculty members and Fr. Pulingathil spoke about Don Bocso, the history of Salesian, the Don Bosco way of life and teaching and finally the preventive system followed in the Don Bosconian way of teaching.
At the end of his talk Fr. Pulingathil introduced Fr. Joseph Pauria (Vice Provincial of Salesian for the Province of Kolkata) who provided the animated in depth information of the Don Bosco Way and the preventive system. He also outlined how the preventive system was different from the repressive system and how as a teacher one could utilise the preventive system effective to educate the youth and the young minds.
After the comprehensive presentation by Fr. Pauria the faculty members were addressed by Fr. George Thadathil (Principal Salesian College) and with additions to the previous speakers. There was a questionnaire that helped the new faculty members better understand the preventive system of teaching and education. He also helped the new faculty members to relax and get in touch with one's spiritual self through meditation and then everyone broke for lunch.
After a sumptuous lunch Fr. Thadathil charted out the present context on the Don Bosco's way of education and teaching, it's relevance and the future course of action. He also provided a philosophical perspective to the Don Bosco Way and the preventive system.
The event ended with Fr. (Dr.) George Chempakathinal providing a short speech on emotional well being.
